A week or so ago, I found out that my cell phone (and plan) were up for renewal and/or upgrade.  My two year old LG phone was just about on it's last leg, so I checked the Verizon website to take a look at their avalable selection of smart phones.  I considered the new, and much-vaunted Motorola Droid, but ended up chosing the BlackBerry Pearl flip-phone (model 8230).  It was delivered to my residence by FedEx and I activated it myself by way of a land line phone.  It's more complicated than any of my previous phones, but I'm learning more about it with each use.  So far, so good.  I'm happy with the decision.

Has anyone else chosen the new Droid or other type smart phone recently?  If so, let me know what you think of it and how it's working for you.

I got a Droid for Christmas (along with the bill).  I was pretty daunted by it and waited until after New Year's to activate it, but found it to be pretty intuitive.  So far the only issue I have had is getting it to download my email....I may have to go to the Verizon store to get the bugs worked out of that.  It worked the first time I tried it after setting up the account, but now it just says it is loading messages.....but they never load.  I watched an online tutorial on YouTube and pretty much figured out the rest on my own...not bad for a 63 yr old woman who just retired her 1999 model Nokia phone.

Wow, DogLady, that's a big step up from a ten year old phone.  But congratulations on setting the new Droid up on your own, even if it's not yet perfect.  They are pretty complicated, aren't they?  Now, I'll know to call you for tech advice whenever I have any trouble with my new BlackBerry.

 Grin

Best of luck with your new smart phone.  Hope you get the e-mail to download!

(PS... I had to grin when you told us you got the new phone... along with the bill!)

Congrats on the new phone DogLady!

I have Sprint and currently use one of their older HTC models.  It's starting to show its age and I'm thinking of upgrading to either the Hero or the Palm Pre (though I will probably wait for the HD2). Will probably end up going with an Android phone for the continuity between mobile and web applications.

@Lou, when I had my blackberry (the 8830) I regularly frequented crackberry.com for useful apps and info. I would also recommend the Beyond411 blackberry application which will not only for searching nearby businesses, but also map them and add them to your contacts.

I powered my phone off yesterday and when I powered it back up today the email worked!  Must be like my computer...sometimes just needs a reboot!
