The shelter is moving into the new facility tomorrow!  I believe it will officially be open for business on Saturday.   I am not sure about Friday.  Please come check it out.  We have lots of wonderful pets to see and the facility is marvelous.  No more stinky odors!

What's your take on the new shelter, DogLady?

We've been out of town for most of a week and were unable to attend the open house event, unfortunately.

We're hoping it meets your expectations and that it's a fine facility.  Let us know, when you have the time to do so.

Thanks.

It is a fabulous facility.  Kenny Green and Mid America Millwright went above and beyond the call of duty and their contract with the city in finishing it.  It is light, bright, clean, consumer and animal friendly.

The only problem I see with it is that although it is twice as big as the old one, the city did not authorize hiring any more employees to help keep it nice and clean and pretty.  In fact, the week before it opened, one employee was forced to resign and the day after it was officially open, a second employee was injured on the job, and now the city is down to one employee who works only four days a week!  We are keeping it open by the skin of our teeth with lots of volunteer labor, but I don't know how long we can keep it up.

We have lots of beautiful happy, healthy dogs and cats for adoption though, so come check it out...and if a city commissioner is your friend or neighbor, let him/her know we are really struggling.    Dodge City has a nice shelter about half the size of ours, but has about 3 times more employees than ours does, even when we are fully staffed.  If we want to keep it nice and pretty and good smelling, we have to have employees to work there.  Volunteers will eventually burn out.
