Hi! I’m Linda Beech, the Finney County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences. I work at the Finney County Extension Office- a branch of K-State Research and Extension- where our mission is to extend information from the experts at Kansas State University to the people of Finney County. Our office is located at 501 S. 9th Street on the fairgrounds in Garden City, our phone number is 620-272-3670 and our website is www.finney.ksu.edu.

I have a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University College of Human Ecology with a dual major in foods & nutrition and consumer economics. I have always been a dedicated “foodie,” but my professional expertise extends beyond the kitchen to include such topics as nutrition, health & wellness, food safety, consumer and financial management, family relationships and general quality of life. My goal over 30 years of Extension work in three counties has always been to link information with life experience to help people improve their lives, their families and their communities.

I’ve called this blog “Living Well” because that’s what I hope you’ll be able to do as a result of the information I share. Together we’ll explore a variety of topics that will range from “what’s new” to “tried and true” and much more in between. We’ll look at seasonal items that are most meaningful at certain times of the year, we’ll dig into topics of current interest and we’ll review the basics that grandma may have known but which today’s generation may have missed. I’ll also keep you updated on local Extension educational classes and workshops that may help you connect with other learners.

As a matter of fact, this week- March 8-14, 2009- has been designated as Extension Living Well Week, so it’s the perfect time to begin a new educational relationship with folks in southwest Kansas. Join me throughout the coming weeks as we learn together for “Living Well.”
