The Power of Girls, and Faith

Hello everyone!  As I’m writing to you it is storming outside.  I LOVE storms!  I love the anxious feeling I get when I know a storm is coming.  It seems to rain here a lot.  It never rains for very long, but when it rains it pours!  One of my favorite things to do is sit outside and listen to the rain.  At home in Sublette we have a swing on our front porch and I used to sit outside while it was raining.  Here in Atlanta I have a little deck at my apartment so I spend some time out there just relaxing when it storms.  Nature can be so peaceful!

Anyways, I made another trip this week to the aquarium with my friend Craig.  I think I liked this trip even more than the first time!  For some reason I find the aquarium utterly fascinating!  I think each time I go I will find another element of the place that I fall in love with.

On Thursday (July 9) we had a team appearance with the “Power of Girls” mentoring program.  These are the same girls that I helped mulch trees with for a “Go Green” project, so we have a special bond through our blood, sweat and tears! Just kidding!  For the appearance we went bowling.  Talk about a fun appearance!  We were separated into teams and we competed against each other.  As you can imagine it got pretty competitive.  Before I tell you who won, let me explain what the atmosphere was like.  The place we bowled at was called 300 Atlanta.  It was the coolest bowling alley I’ve ever been too!  At the end of each lane was a huge television screen that had a music video playing.  In between each lane was another television screen that had different channels like the soccer games that have been on.  So basically it was just a string of television screens.  Whatever music video was playing on TV was the song that was blasting throughout the building.  There were running lights down each lane that provided the light so it totally set the mood for some bowling!  Hopefully you can picture all that.  Basically it was awesome.  To top it off, my team won!  I was with Tamera Young from the Dream and then we were with a few people that work for the Dream and a girl from the mentoring program.  It was total domination so that made the night even more enjoyable.  Not to mention the bragging rights that Tamera and I have now.

Friday was the day we hit the road to head to New York to play the Liberty.  The last time I was in New York was my freshman year of college when we went there to play.  That trip was one of my favorite trips we took in my four years at KSU.  We got to go to “The Lion King” Broadway play and also to watch the Rockefeller Dancers.  Then we got to walk around Times Square.  I remember that trip like it was yesterday.  So here I am four years later and I get to go back to New York.  This year our hotel was one block away from Times Square.  As I went out exploring one evening, I saw the place where we went to the “Lion King” play and it brought back so many wonderful memories.  I didn’t go to any Broadway plays this trip but it was still neat to walk around.  I went to a few shops but didn’t buy anything.  The night before the game, Sancho and I went to eat at Olive Garden which was located on Broadway Street.  It was literally in the MIDDLE of the street where traffic was passing on both sides of the restaurant.  It was really a pretty neat set up.  Then I decided I need to experience something common for New York, so after the game I went and found some pizza.  There’s nothing quite like a gigantic piece of greasy New York pizza!  The funny thing is that we travel back to NYC in a week and a half to play them again so perhaps next time I will venture out a little farther.

One of the best parts of the NYC trip was having the opportunity to play in Madison Square Garden.  There is so much history in that building and I’ve watched a countless number of games that have been played in that gym so to have the chance to play there was really fulfilling.  The things I get to do because I play basketball is truly remarkable.  I get to travel the world and visit different cities while playing the game I love.  Rough life huh?!

Recently I was blessed to be interviewed for a website called Hollywoodjesus.com.  It was a fun interview because I got to speak about my faith.  If you are interested in reading it you can check it out at their website.

Before I leave I wanted to share some interesting quotes with you.  A friend of mine that I met through hollywoodjesus.com shared these with me so I wanted to pass them on to you.  They really made me think.

“Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.” – Oswald Chambers

“Many fail to achieve anything significant for God or man because they lack a dominating ambition.  No great task was ever achieved without the complete abandonment to it that a worthy ambition inspires.” – J. Oswald Sanders

Yours truly,
Shalee

Aquarium, bowling, NY: sounds like a vacation. I’ve never been to 300 Atlanta but it sounds fun. Keep up the blogging and thanks for the hard work on the court! One Team. One Dream.
