I Would Walk 500 miles… And I Would Walk 500 more
What makes a fan, a fan? Is it the amount of clothing the fan wears supporting his/her team? Is it a tattooing a logo on his/her neck of the fan’s favorite team?
All are great ways to show ones fanaticism. But the bar has been raised by one Tyler McGill from the New England area.
In a bet with friends, the Boston Celtics fan walked from Boston’s TD Garden to New York City. That’s 218 miles. And oh yea, he had to do it in just seven days!
The prize: courtside seats to Games 3-5 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Lakers.
McGill said he walked the equivalent of a marathon AND a 10K per day. That’s roughly 32 miles of walking a day. And he did it.
Not only did he succeed in reaching his goal, but he apparently finished the bet with a day-and-a-half remaining. But most importantly, he reached his destination on Sunday night… Just in time to watch the fourth quarter of Boston’s 103-94 victory over the Lakers.

Leo Loving Kansas
Imagine looking through sports photos of Game 1 of the NBA Finals in Los Angeles, looking for a photo to put in the sports section. Now, when it comes to the Associated Press photographers taking shots when the Lakers are playing, you must anticipate getting more sideline celebrity shots than actual game pictures.
Friday was no different. Except, for some reason, I decided to click on one of them that looked like Leonardo DiCaprio because I wasn’t sure who was sitting next to him.
As fate would have it, the person sitting next to Leo wasn’t what eventually caught my eye. It was the ball cap on top of Leo’s head: A black cap with a big gold ‘W’… The light goes off and the pupils get dilated. Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the biggest actors in Hollywood, was wearing a Wichita State Shockers hat at the NBA Finals. Can you say marketing mayhem for WSU?

(AP Photo) Actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire talk during the second half of Game 1 of the NBA basketball finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic Thursday in Los Angeles.
If I’m a marketing guru at Wichita State, I’m using this photo and/or any film of Leo sporting the Shockers hat.
Now my intrigue didn’t end there when it came to the photo. I wanted to know the connection is between Leo and the Wichita State hat. Hello, google!
After multiple searches I came across an article about the channel Planet Green and their show about the reconstruction of Greensburg following the tornado a few years back. As it happens to be, the film company that is shooting in Greensburg is Leo’s and DiCaprio is a co-executive producer of the show.
Not only is Leo helping with rebuilding of a devistated Kansas town, but he’s obviously promoting Kansas colleges. See people, there are some people in Hollywood that have a little respect and love for us Midwestern citizens.
My impression of Leo got a big boost after this NBA game!
